Gilberto Gil developed one of the most relevant and renowned careers as a singer, composer and guitar player in both world and pop music.  In a career that has spanned four decades, with over 30 albums released, Gil has six gold records, four platinum singles and five million records sold.  The Tropicalist genre he introduced, alongside Caetano Veloso, has secured his fame internationally as well as at home in Brazil.  Gil possesses a key role in the constant modernization of Brazilian popular music and culture throughout the world. Gilberto Gil performs with cellist Jaques Morelenbaum and guitarist Bem Gil for this special concert at Symphony Center.

Villa-Lobos Meets Jobim

Latino Music Festival Closing Night

This concert will be the closing night of the 09 Latino Music Festival featuring the music of Heitor Villa-Lobos and Tom Jobim, two monumental names in the music of the 20th century, classical or popular.
 
 
Brazilian arranger and conductor Flavio Chamis introduces the audience to the fascinating woel of the two greatest musicians from his country, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Antonico Carlos Jobim.
Also, legendary Brazilian pianist Paulo Sauer will take part on the show. For many years Mr. Sauer play piano for Chico Buarque, one of the giants of Brazilian music. In this concert he joins some of the top Chicago musicians such a s Jim Gailloreto (sax), Steve Eissen (flute), Jeb Bishop (trombone), Donale Neale (piano), Ernie Adams (drums) and Erich Hochberg (bass). Special guest: Neusa Sauer (vocals).
 
A pre-concert reception will be hosted next to the Claudia Cassidy Theatre.
The event his presented in cooperation with the Consulate General of Brazil in Chicago and AARP.
 

 



The winners for the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival have been announced and we are pleased to inform you that “Scarecrow Girl” (Brazil, 2008)) won the Certificate of Excellence prize from the Adult Jury in the area of Documentary Film, awarded to Cassio Pereira Dos Santos
 
We hope you are as proud as we that in a highly competitive year during which the CICFF featured 265 films from 40 countries, that Brazil was especially distinguished.
