How to apply for a passport by mail Passports applied for by mail will have a maximum validity of three (3) years.
1) Send completed passport application to:

Completed application must include:
b) Money Order- The Consulate-General of Brazil in Chicago ONLY accepts payments in the form of a Money Order issued by the United States Postal Service (USPS), payable to the “Consulate-General of Brazil in Chicago.” Personal checks, credit cards, or any other forms of payment are not accepted.
c) Return envelope - Applications sent by mail must include a self-addressed, pre-paid USPS Express Mail return envelope. Applications received without the self-addressed, pre-paid USPS Express Mail return envelope will be returned without processing.
MAIL CARRIERS - The Consulate ONLY accepts USPS Express Mail envelopes. Envelopes transported by other carriers will be returned without opening. The Consulate will not be held responsible for delays or losses of documents or Money Orders sent or returned by mail. For more secure delivery, the Consulate strongly suggests the use of USPS Express Mail.
IMPORTANT:
· We recommend that the applicant take note of the tracking numbers of both the submit AND the return envelopes.
· Applications containing incorrect or incomplete documentation will be returned to sender in the return envelope provided.
2) Processing Time
Four (4) working days after the reception of all required documentation. The processing time may increase without notice in times considered high season.
IN CASE OF LOSS - In case of loss, the applicant should seek assistance from the U.S. Postal Service. The interested party must provide new original documentation and new payment in order to continue the visa application process.
