Brazilian citizens are required to enter and leave Brazil on their Brazilian passports.
After having reached 18 years of age, Brazilians born abroad cannot obtain a passport until their birth has been registered at a Brazilian Consulate.
Standard passports have a maximum validity of five years. They must be signed by the bearer and will not be accepted if showing signs of having been unduly altered.
The passport is property of the Brazilian Government and can be confiscated if fraud or undue use is suspected.
When abroad, the bearer must inform the nearest Brazilian Consulate in case of loss, theft, undue change, or total or partial destruction of the passport.
The bearer is advised to keep a copy of the identifying pages of the passport in case of loss or theft.
