Transcripts, letters, certifications, diplomas and other documents issued by schools, high schools, colleges and universities.

It is required for legalization:
1) ORIGINAL document
a) in its letterhead;
b) with the name and address of the learning institution;
c) with rubber or haut relieve stamp;
d) signed by an authorized official (usually the principal, registrar, or counselor).
2) Consular Fees
a) US$ 5.00 for each school document.
b) US$ 15.00 when there is more than three documents concerning the same person.
In the latter case the documents can be bunddled together for one single legalization.
Means of payment
The Consulate General ONLY accepts payments with Money Order issued by the U.S. Postal Service payable to "Consulate General of Brazil in Chicago".
4) Processing time
The documents will be legalized on the same day if presented personally.
DOCUMENTS SENT BY MAIL
1) Sending the documents
The Consulate General in Chicago ONLY accepts mail received and sent through the U.S. Postal Service.
We recomend: U.S. Postal Service Express Mail, for being faster and safer.
2) Send
a) Documents (complet set);
b) Money Order; the Consulate General ONLY accepts payments with Money Order issued by the U.S. Postal Service payable to "Consulate General of Brazil in Chicago".
c) Pre-stamped, self-addressed return envelope (we recomend Express Mail). The address can be in the USA or in Brazil (in the latter case, please be sure that the return envelope has sufficient stamps for international remittance).
Delay or loss of the documents by the mail
The Consulate General is not responsible for delay or loss of documents or money orders by the Postal Service.

The document's owner is responsible for taking note of the send and return envelopes' tracking numbers for control.
In case the Postal Service misses a document the owner should take the tracking numbers to the nearest Post Office for assistance.
3) Processing time for legalization of documents sent by mail
Two (2) working days after the Consulate General receives the complete documentation, not included the mail time.
Given the great volume of school documents presented, by year end the legalization of school documents can take up to four (4) weeks.
Incomplete or incorrect documents will be sent back in the return envelope provided without being legalized.
IMPORTANT
Legalization of the documents for students in Brazil
The Consulate General cannot afford sending documents to Brazil by express mail. Someone residing in the U.S.A. should be responsible for taking care of school documents belonging to students who are back in Brazil.
