Other Consular Services


  • Tourism trip;
  • visit to relatives and/or friends;
  • scientists, professors or researchers attending cultural, technological or scientific conferences, seminars (unpaid speakers).
  • participation in artistic or amateur sport competitions, whenever no monetary prize or paid admission is involved.

    Tourist visa holders are not allowed to engage in any paid activity in Brazil.  


    I-Requirements for a tourist visa:

    1) Passport
    Original (no copies), signed by the applicant, with a minimum remaining validity of six months left and with at least two contiguous blank pages left.
    ► Non US citizens must also present proof of legal residency, such as a photocopy of green card or of a valid visa in the United States, or an American Re-entry Permit.
    ► Visas will be issued on a "laissez-passer" to individuals of: Bhutan, Central African Republic and Taiwan. Please, click here to see the requirements for Laissez-passer.
     
    2) Receipt ("Protocolo")
    a) APPLICATION FORM: Click here to fill out the visa-request form (please disregard the message about the website's security certificate. See the image after these instructions); 
    ALL fields must be filled out, not only those indicated with an asterisk. Incomplete forms will be returned;
    The information provided by the applicant is used for issuing the VISA: Be very carefull when filling out the visa application form.

    b) Print and sign the receipt. 
    Notice: In case of visa application for minors under 18, please read "Minors under 18 years of age", below;
     
    3) One photograph
    Passport size, in color or black and white, full-face only, on a white or clear background. Instant, digital, photocopies or scanned photos are not acceptable. Please, attach the photo on the first square of the "Receipt".


     

     
    4) Round-trip-ticket
    Applicants must present one of the items below:
    a) a copy of the round-trip-ticket, e-ticket or e-booking;
    b) a signed letter from the airline or travel agent, on their letterhead, with the itinerary, name(s) of the passenger(s), flight number or cruise information, and dates of arrival and departure from Brazil.
     
    Notice: Airline employees and their dependents must present a copy of their airline I.D. card, and a letter from the airline, on its letterhead, with the itinerary.
     
    5) Letter by Sponsor or Invitation letter
    As applicable only for participation in athletic or performing arts event or competition, scholar conferences, copy of letter by sponsors or invitation letter with detailed information on the event and conditions of attendance;
     
    6) Invitation letter for conference/Seminar/Workshop
    A letter from the institution or committee organizing the Conference declaring if the applicant will receive any compensation for the participation (paid of unpaid speaker, for example). If the applicant is only attending the conference, a confirmation or receipt for your registration should be sufficient.
     
    7) Proof of residence in the consular jurisdiction
    The Consulate of Brazil accepts: valid driver's license or utility bills.
     
    8) Consular Fees
     
    9) International Certificate of Vaccination 

     
    Notice: the documents listed above are not all-inclusive. The Consulate General may request further documents at its discretion.
     

    II-Method of payment
     
    The Consulate General in Chicago ONLY accepts payments with Money Order issued by the U.S. Postal Service payable to “Consulate General of Brazil in Chicago”.
     

     
    Multiple applications submitted together may be covered by one single money order for the total sum. When submitted by mail, multiple applications may be covered by one single money order only if they are sent in the same U.S.P.S. envelope.
     

    III-Processing time

    Usually, seven (7) working days, after all requirements are met.
    The processing time does not include:
    a) the time an application is held by a visa service or a travel agency;
    b) the time the applicant takes to provide additional information/documents eventually required by the Consulate;
    c) the time in the mail.
    During high season, in the case of group visas and special cases, longer processing time periods may apply.


     
    NOTICE
     
    Minors under 18 years of age - parents must present:
    a) Letter of consent authorizing the Consulate General to issue a visa, signed by both parents or the legal guardian. The signatures must be certified by a public notary. 
    b) Certified copy of the minor's birth certificate;
    c) Parent's or legal guardian's ID (original or certified copy);
    d) Legal guardians must present proof of guardianship.
