1) Passport
US citizens: Original (no copies), signed by the applicant, with a minimum remaining validity of six months left and with at least two blank pages left.
Non US citizens:
a) Original (no copies), signed by the applicant, with at least six months remaining validity and with at least two blank visa pages left.
b) Proof of legal residency as a photocopy of green card or of a valid visa in the United States, or an American Re-entry Permit
Visas will be issued on a "laissez-passer " to nationals of the following countries:
Bhutan, Central African Republic, Taiwan.
2) Receipt ("Protocolo"), signed by the applicant. To obtain the receipt, the applicant must:

b) Print and sign the receipt.
For business:
a) A letter from the applicant’s employer
On its letterhead, signed by senior management or superior, informing:
• job position;
• job description;
• purpose and description of the applicant’s intended activities during the trip, providing details such as dates, places, contacts, and end-purpose of the trip (sales, purchases, coordination, auditing, etc);
• duration of the trip. Information on periodicity, average length and assignment description of future trips, if any;
• financial responsibility for the trip.
b) A letter from brazilian company/organization
That is inviting or will be contacted by the applicant, on its letterhead, signed by the management in charge of the area that the applicant intends to be in contact with, informing:
• job position and job description of the contact person in Brazil;
• assignment description and information about the end-purpose of the intended activities in Brazil (sales, purchases, coordination, auditing, etc);
• date(s) and place(s) of the meetings and information on periodicity, average length and assignment description of future trips, if any;
• financial responsibility for the trip, if applicable
For foreign crew intending to shoot films, commercials or TV programs in Brazil.
Permission from ANCINE - It is mandatory that the foreign crew intending to shoot films, commercials or TV programs in Brazil first establish a partnership with a Brazilian production company, registered with the Brazilian National Film Agency (ANCINE). The Brazilian production company will be responsible for obtaining permission for the filming and for all matters and issues concerning it. Notice: ANCINE will directly inform the Consulate General about the permission for filming in Brazil.
6) Consular Fees
To calculate the total visa fee, one must add up:
a) Tourist visa fee: it changes according to the applicant's nationality.
b) Reciprocity fee: citizens from certain countries (the U.S. included) must pay and additional non-refundable reciprocity fee.
c) Processing fee: unless the visa application is submitted personally by either the applicant or by a member of his family (father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, husband or wife), a non-refundable processing fee applies.

II-Method of payment
The Consulate General in Chicago ONLY accepts payments with Money Order issued by the U.S. Postal Service payable to “Consulate General of Brazil in Chicago”.
We will not accept personal checks, credit cards, or any other form of payment.
III-Processing time
Eight (8) working days if applied in person and fourteen (14) days if submitted via mail.
The processing time does not include:
a) the time an application is held by a visa service or a travel agency;
b) the time the applicant takes to provide additional information/documents eventually required by the Consulate;
c) the time in the mail.
During high season and in the case of group visas, longer processing time periods may apply
