Permanent Visas (VIPER)
Personal investment in Brazil
I-General Information
- Regardless of an applicant’s nationality, the Brazilian interested party must apply for the visa directly to the National Council of Immigration (“Conselho Nacional de Imigração – CNIg”) of the Ministry of Labor.

- Please note that all documents issued in the US that are presented to the Brazilian authorities with the visa application must first be legalized at a Brazilian Consulate and translated in Brazil by an official translator (“tradutor juramentado”) in order to be valid in Brazil.
- The Consulate can only issue this kind of visa after receiving authorization from the Ministry of External Relations. The Ministry of External Relations can only authorize the Consulate to issue the visa after receiving approval from the Ministry of Labor, allowing the applicant to invest in Brazil and indicating the legislation (“Resolução Normativa”) on which the approval was based.
II- Documents to be presented by applicant after the Consulate-General has received authorization from the proper authorities in Brazil
Only after receiving the authorization from the authorities in Brazil will the Consulate process an application for a Permanent Visa. The Permanent Visa application must be submitted in person.
1) Passport
Original (no copies), signed by the applicant, with a minimum remaining validity of six months and with at least two contiguous blank pages left.
- Non-US citizens must also present proof of legal residency, such as a photocopy of either a green card, a valid visa issued by the United States government, or an American Re-entry Permit.

2) DELIVERY RECEIPT ("Protocolo") printed upon completion of ONLINE VISA REQUEST FORM
a) Complete the ONLINE VISA REQUEST FORM by clicking HERE. Click on “VISA REQUEST” on bottom left-hand side of screen and follow instructions.
· Please disregard the message about the website's security certificate. (See the image after these instructions.)
· ALL fields must be filled out, not only those indicated with an asterisk. Incomplete forms will be returned.
· The information provided by the applicant will be used for issuing the VISA (e.g. spelling of name, address, date of birth).Be very careful to accurately complete the visa request form.
b) Print and sign the DELIVERY RECEIPT (“Protocolo”) by visiting the same web site and clicking “PRINT VISA FORM DELIVERY RECEIPT” on bottom left-hand side of screen.
3) One photograph
· Passport size, in color or black and white, full-face only, on a white or clear background.
· Instant, digital, scanned or photocopied photos are not acceptable.
· Please attach the photo on the first square of the Delivery Receipt (“Protocolo”).
4) Non-criminal record for applicant and dependants 16 years of age or older. No more than 90 days old, issued by the Police Department of the applicant’s place of residence. The document must have an official signature as well as a stamped or haut-relief seal of the Police Department. Printouts of computer-generated criminal records are not accepted.
5) Proof of residence in consular jurisdiction
A photocopy of a valid driver's license or utility bill will be accepted as proof of residence.

III- Method of payment
The Consulate-General of Brazil in Chicago ONLY accepts payments in the form of a Money Order issued by the United States Postal Service (USPS), payable to “Consulate-General of Brazil in Chicago.” Personal checks, credit cards, or any other forms of payment are not accepted.

V-Processing time
PROCESSING TIME - Be sure to plan your visa application in advance. After all application requirements are met, the processing time is approximately four (4) working days.
VISA STATUS - Applicants can check the status of their visa application application here (Click “CHECK VISA”). Please allow three (3) working days after the delivery of your application for it to appear in the system. When your application status is listed as “No Application Pending,” your visa application has been processed.Your visa will be ready for pick-up on the date specified on the Delivery Receipt (“Protocolo”) issued the day of your application.
