REQUIREMENTS FOR PERMANENT VISAS FOR RETIRED PEOPLE
I – Eligibility
► Retired people able to monthly transfer US$ 2,000.00 or more to Brazil in pension funds.
► The applicant's permanent visa may be extended to two dependents (espouse or child. For more information, see permanent visa for family reunion).
► Applicants who intend to Bring to Brazil more than two dependents must present proof of being able to transfer to Brazil a minimum amount of US$ 1,000.00 per extra dependent.
II - DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED
Applicants must present themselves at the Consulate General and present the following documents:
1) Three Visa Application Forms
The visa form must be completely filled-out, signed by the applicant (original signature) and must have an e-mail address for contact, or a phone number.
Note: One application form will be attached to the passport for the purpose of registration with the Brazilian Federal Police within 30 days of the candidate's date of arrival in Brazil.
► Minors under 18 years of age:
• A copy of the minor’s birth certificate is required in all cases;
• Their visa-application form must be signed by both parents or legal gardians. A Notary Public must notarize the signatures. Death certificates and other court documents are accepted as proof of guardianship
2) Three photographs
Passport size, in color or black and white, full-face only, on a white or clear background. Instant, digital, photocopies or scanned photos are not acceptable.
3) Legalized copy of the passport

4) Marriage certificate or birth certificate
As necessary, for each dependent;
5) Non-criminal record
For dependants 16 years of age or older. No more than 90 days old, issued by the Police Department of the applicant’s place of residence. The document must have an official signature as well as a stamped or haut-relief seal of the Police Department. Printouts of computer-generated criminal records are not accepted.
6) Proof of residence
The applicant must reside within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General in Chicago;
7) Statement from the Pension Provider
The document must state the monthly amount paid to the applicant. As applicable, the document must indicate the amount regarding the lifetime portion and the temporary portion of the benefit.
8) Bank statement
Duly signed by an authorized bank clerk, confirming that a monthly pension of US$ 2,000.00, or more as necessary, can be transferred to Brazil;
9) Proof of full retirement
A “Social Security Statement” must inform the full retirement age and the monthly pension income. As applicable, the document must indicate the amount regarding the lifetime portion and the temporary portion.
III- Documents to be presented after the Consulate General receives the approval from proper authorities in Brazil:
1) Passport
US citizens: Original (no copies), signed by the applicant, with a minimum remaining validity of six months left and with at least two blank pages left.
2) Consular Fee
- The visa fee is US$ 200.00 per person.
- American citizens must pay an additional US$ 130.00 non-refundable reciprocity fee per visa when submitting the visa application.
Method of payment
The Consulate General in Chicago only accepts payments with Money Order issued by the U.S. Postal Service payable to “Consulate General of Brazil in Chicago”.
Personal checks, credit cards, or any other form of payment are not accepted.
Processing Time
The processing time is 5 working days after the Brazilian authorities have authorized the visa and all documents were presented.
