Visa for paid participation in performing arts events must be applied in Brazil directly to the Ministry of Labor by the Brazilian sponsor.
Only after receiving the visa authorization from the concerned Brazilian authorities will the Consulate General will accept the visa application.
I-Requirements for a Temporary Visa
1) Authorization
Issued by Brazilian authorities.
2) Passport
a) US citizens: Original (no copies), signed by the applicant, with a minimum remaining validity of six months left and with at least two contiguous blank pages left.
b) Non US citizens must present proof of legal residency, such as a photocopy of green card or of a valid visa in the United States, or an American Re-entry Permit.
c) Visas will be issued on a "laissez-passer" to nationals of the following countries: Bhutan, Central African Republic, Taiwan.
3) Receipt ("Protocolo"), signed by the applicant. To obtain the receipt, the applicant must:

b) Print and sign the receipt.
4) One photographs
Passport size, in color or black and white, full-face only, on a white or clear background.
Instant, digital, photocopies or scanned photos are not acceptable
5) Consular Fees
To calculate the total visa fee, one must add up:
a) Tourist visa fee: it changes according to the applicant's nationality.
b) Reciprocity fee: citizens from certain countries (the U.S. included) must pay and additional non-refundable reciprocity fee.
c) Processing fee: unless the visa application is submitted personally by either the applicant or by a member of his family (father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, husband or wife), a non-refundable processing fee applies.

II-Method of payment
The Consulate General in Chicago ONLY accepts payments with Money Order issued by the U.S. Postal Service payable to “Consulate General of Brazil in Chicago”.
The Consulate General does not accept personal checks, credit cards, or any other form of payment.
III-Processing time
Usually, 8 working days if applied in person and 15 days if submitted via mail, after all requirements are met. Note that this period does not include:
a) the time an application is held by a visa service or a travel agency;
b) the time the applicant takes to provide additional information/documents eventually required by the Consulate;
c) the time in the mail.
During high season and in the case of group visas, longer processing time periods may apply.
